In an old garden

Melanie Rose Huff

The statue I love most
Stands in a hidden corner
Forgotten by the sunlight
Her graceful lines
Crisscrossed by cracks
Filled with moss.
Long ago she cracked open
Shed dust from her wounds like blood
Wept her stone tears
Then the moss, slowly, over years
With its whisper-soft touch
Suffused her injuries
Wrapped her in velvet ribbons
All her empty places
Brimming with life
Veins of green, glowing in the shadows
Like the lines of gold in a Kintsugi bowl
