Wrapped Up by the Fire

Gram P Paul

There's nothing cozier than a winter's night.
I find myself all wrapped up in my favorite soft blanket, nice and tight.
It's pulled up gently, touching my face.
This is the coziest place.
The warmth of the fire in front of me is keeping me from the cold.
The glow from the fireplace never gets old.
It crackles and pops, so I know it is warm.
Sometimes an ember shoots. It's cause for alarm.
The heat is so warm.
I feel it on both my arms. I sink into an oversized chair.
Sometimes I stare.
I look at the beauty of the flames.
No two are ever the same.
The flames shoot towards the sky.
They're so beautiful to my eye.
The fire's simply brilliant, flickering, flame lights up the night.
The beautiful fireplace with all its rock.
On the mantle, there's an antique clock.
As the mantle clock ticks away,
I know I am safe and warm for another day.
