Three Perspectives
Tim Thornburgh
Framed in silver
preserved
in a sepia print,
Snapped in the scissored sunlight
streaming through coconut fronds
swaying
to the vagaries
of an inconstant island breeze
Three young men:
easy smiles,
arms linked,
exuding confidence,
Dominate the foreground
of this pastoral
island still life.
Yet squeezed in the background
Hovering above the coconut trees
that lean toward the
indifferent
flat blue sea,
Are bruise-purple clouds,
Promising
high winds and heavy seas,
As hurricane season
salts the air.
