The Sentinel
Suzy B. Trotz
for my father
Everyone is an island,
mastering their wild land,
building a lighthouse and
gull castles of sand.
Ships mapped not to sink,
etched in indigo ink
on sea-salty skin —
life lived in a wink.
We missed all those days,
as your anchor tattoo faded,
the beacon fighting the haze,
the flashes dimmed, signals —
misplaced.
No man is a mere island.
Let me guard the isle —
with a brief remembering smile

Suzy is a German, science-shaped poet with “Wanderlust” who has found a home on the west coast in Sweden; where it is never far from the sea and the deep green forest. She finds that the surrounding natural beauty and rugged climate help her portray the inner landscape onto paper.
