Leisurely Truant

Mary Baca Haque

The silver skies are loud today
yet I adore the ruckus
whispering to my frigid world.
I enshroud myself deeper, buried
in soft blankets and layers
of my grainy mist, yet
the elegance of the junco bird
awakens my truancy,
trilling on the wintry gales—
a calming lure, a song
of solace through thick
frosted window panes
whilst trees sound a bend
on the whistling winds,
easing the veiled portions
of a most leisure hibernation.
