Land and Lake

Erin Jamieson

you visited the
lake today— algae
clutching your
ankles as you
tried to drag
me in but

            I left my
            sandwich
            nestling yours
            as we once
            held each other

the lake is
so very cool
you blossom
gills so I
lose you
by degrees

            under the intoxicating
            aroma of cherry blossoms
            in late Spring
