As Night Stills

Jennifer Smith

an erasure poem from "A Visit from St. Nicholas" by: Clement Clarke Moore

The house creaks,
then nestles, settles
on winter’s lawn,

a rose, late
to ray the window,
reopens sash.

Moon o're snow
lusters moments
called by name.

dash away wild,
the obstacle sky.
turn tarnish to
twinkle in white
circled wreath.

"I dread not
darkness,"
exclaims night.
